This is a website devoted to LiteStep development ( Litestep.net, Wikipedia article, DeviantArt themes). For now it's just a place to collect a few links and development info, but may turn into more.

LATEST

02/05/12 - I'm still stalking LS development coding. It will happen when it happens. I have started updating my theme. Originally produced in 2001 to 2002 I'm now making a 2012 version with updated modules ! Litestep never stops ! It's a Wharf theme - a venerable form of theme style - my next theme will probably be xlabel based. I found a much more recent Wharf module as I was using an old one from 2001. So now I can update the graphics to alpha blended PNG's. I'm also installing Afterstep in my Debian Linux as this window manager is what originally inspired some of my work in Litestep. Incidentally the graphics in my theme were originally produced by tweening letters in Macromedia (as it then was) Fireworks. I may try and reproduce this effect in Blender for another theme.

23/12/11 - I cloned LiteStep from GitHub. I've identified a couple of interesting bugs. Moving in !

18/12/11 - Great news ! Litestep has moved to GitHub. I've seen some great projects here and it obviously has some useful  services for coders.

03/10/11 - Should be building 0.25 in the CVS. Oh well. That is next. 0.25 does not have png and other dependencies which was fixed by Tobbe. I should really build 0.25 in VC++ first but I went straight on to building using MingW32 in Linux using the Code:: Blocks IDE (hey, it's more interesting !). So far, so good. I just need to fix the usual case problem in references to .h files in Linux in code that is written to work on Windows (case insensitive). I think there is a way to make Code Blocks or MingW32 blind to the case. Hmmm, more later.

29/09/11 - Having successfully built LS 0.24 in latest VC++ I've found that building 0.25 is actually a lot easier because it has no external dependencies (apart from some in the Windows SDK). The build guide will probably be updated soon as well because some parts of it will simply become unnecessary once there have been some pertinent commits to the LS CVS. 0.25 is the build that developers should be concentrating on and is apparently almost ready for primetime (with Vista/Win7 support as well as possibly 64bit). So I'll be looking at building that and possibly building in mingw as well. There are also some other build environments that can be used. Some of them just as GUI'ish as VC++ and open source as well ! So I'll be looking at some of those and writing a guide. There's also a possibility that building could take place  in Linux for those more familiar with Linux coding tools (esp. at the CLI), with the build target still being Windows of course.

26/09/11 - rootrider has written an overview of current Litestep activity and direction, State of the step.

DEVELOPMENT

I worked out how to build Litestep using the latest Microsoft compiler/IDE release, Visual C++ 2010 Express. As far as I know I was the first to write a guide explaining how to do this with the current source code release (as yet, untested with CVS). See here for the guide.
